The quotes that touched you, inspired you, untangled an anxiety of yours, made you feel all sorts of feels, don’t you want a way to let them do those things they did to you again and again? YASS, BABBY!

For once reddit doesn’t have a good answer

Ask on r/books (1.5 million weekly visitors) how people save and recall quotes and you’ll get one of two answers: a notebook, or Kindle highlights.

These are the top two comments on the discussion:

Kindle is great at this. Highlight the passage and save it. Then it'll create a new "book" that has all of your saved quotes with the source.

I just use the note app in my phone for any quotes I want to remember from physical books and digital.

Both feel like a system but neither is. Because a system implies a loop. But these two “systems” are built for one-way inputs, nothing is resurfaced to you. You have to intentionally perform the work of returning to the folder to find the quotes.

Let the quotes find you

Highlighting or writing a quote down was never really the goal. The goal was to embody it. And you achieve that through reliving the version of you that the sentence inspired, again and again. And that only happens through revisiting the quote again and again. (Neuroscience calls this the spacing effect)

So, let them come find you. spongee scanning text and saving quote to home screen widget

  • Highlight the quote and save from any mobile reading app directly to Spongee. If you’re on a kindle or paperback, scan the quote and save it.
  • Bonus: save it with a quick note on why it hit you. Writing even one line forces you to name the thing you recognized in it. (Neuroscience: elaborative encoding)
  • The Spongee widget rotates your saved quotes on your home screen. So you get to meet them casually whenever you unlock your phone.

I can’t wait to see you blossom into the person the quotes inspired.

Much ❤️,
Wen
